Farmington Elementary students were rewarded for a successful PTO fundraiser by a visit from nationally known magician Rick Smith Jr. Smith holds a Guiness World Record for throwing a playing card 216 ft. 4 in. at a speed of 92 MPH. Third grader MaKenzie Mason helped Smith put a straight jacket on juggling phenomenon Billy Matsumoto. Matsumoto was able to get out of the straight jacket with no help. Farmington friends will be featured on the pair's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Rick-Smith-Jr.
Farmington Elementary kindergarteners received a visit from "Johnny Appleseed" (aka Doug Moore). Moore told a story and read a book to each of the three kindergarten classrooms. He explained how apple cider is made, then gave each friend an apple and the chance to try apple cider. After eating the apples, the classes went outside to plant apple seeds that they found in their apples. Moore (center) is pictured with Carter Morris (left) and Logan Phillips (right) in Jill Dobson's classroom.

Community Helpers
Captain Jeremy Prince with the Graves County Sheriff's Office visited Amy Cheek's preschool class at Farmington Elementary as part of a unit on Community Helpers. Captain Prince brought his K-9, Kilo, to visit with the class. Prince talked about what he and Kilo do to help keep the community safe. The friends enjoyed watching Kilo open the car door by himself and getting to pet him. The activity helped the students understand that law enforcement officers are friends of the community, and they do not need to be afraid of them.
